Ever wanted to watch HBO's Game of Thrones while having immediate access to all 5,000 published pages of George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series, to see what was changed, what was weakened, and – most especially – what was improved? (It turns out there's quite a few of all three, ranging from the microscopically small to the unbelievably large.)

Stefan and Miles are here to help.

The dynamic duo have been writing about, researching, analyzing, and otherwise obsessing over Martin's masterpiece for the past six years, publishing essays on such vaunted sites as Tower of the Hand and diving deep into the rich material on various podcasts. Individually, they're responsible for some of the most influential pieces of analysis (Miles is the progenitor of the "Heir to the North" theory, while Stefan penned the classic "Southron Ambitions"); together, they've contributed to such publications as Tower of the Hand A Flight of Sorrows.

They also, it turns out, don't particularly agree on the specific tone or overarching quality of HBO's adaptation of Song of Ice and Fire, which became readily apparent while the both of them reviewed the television series for Tower of the Hand. Such divergent perspectives led them to pair their insights into Game of Thrones together, to afford readers and viewers the most all-encompassing understating of the show's various triumphs and failures, its deviations and slavish faithfulness.

Collected here are all of their various reviews of the episodes (Miles started professionally reviewing Thrones starting with season two, while Stefan began in the third season) together with brand-new, exclusive commentaries generated by the duo, walking through each of the first 50 installments with equal parts humor and intensity. Think of them as post-viewing discussions conducted by the most prestigious Martin scholars and the biggest nerds both, and you're lucky enough to be in the room to absorb it all.

It Is Known Seasons 1 - 5 Deconstructed is the perfect recap of the first five seasons – just in time for the sixth season! – and, given that the series has now surpassed George Martin's novels, the ultimate judgement on whether Game of Thrones's showrunners did A Song of Ice and Fire any justice.

You'll never look at your favorite characters, scenes, or episodes the same way again.

It Is Known Seasons 1 5 Deconstructed edition by Stefan Sasse Miles Schneiderman Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews

I was so excited when I saw this book pop up on my recommended reading list. I'm a die hard GoT fan. My biggest criticism of this book is that it's written poorly. It's a lazy, rambling conversation between two people. Honestly, it reads like a transcript of a podcast. And, if that'd what it is, ten why make it a book? The structure is off and it detracts.
Second, when you title a book "It is known", I expect the book to do two things- adequately and accurately summarize the GoT cannon (denoting book versus show) and give background or allegorical opinion (as did the Khaleesi's handmaidens in Vas Dothrak). Instead, this is two men, opining on their personal feelings regarding scenes, dialogue, or importance of either. It's less wiki or thoughtful examination and more Monday morning quarterbacking. Opinions aren't what is known.
Third, the self righteous tone of this book is just off. I spent the first hour f reading wondering if their intent was too ironically best the hand maidens in their attempt to pass off opinion as what is known. That would've been fine had the structure been better. But, this really reads like a bad podcast.

I expected insight, debate, and some acknowledgement of what IS known. Not my grandparents arguing over which was the best AARP plan. I know that, within any fandom community, there are camps and I don't mean to anger the camp that loves these guys and this book. I don't have the Lannister money or the Baratheon New Gods to endure such a battle. But, if you were looking for the Pottermore of Game of Thrones, this isn't it.

I give it two stars because, while not my cup of tea, it might be someone else's. But, just because people can self publish doesn't mean they should.
Insightful and well written
